Bio
Xiachu Song is an accomplished classical violinist and educator with a passion for performance and teaching. She earned her Bachelor of Music degree from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, where she studied under Sibbi Bernhardsson and Gregory Fulkerson, and her Master of Music degree from Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music, as a student of Grigory Kalinovsky’s esteemed studio. Currently, Xiachu is a doctoral candidate at the University of North Texas, where she serves as a Teaching Assistant in Julia Bushkova’s studio and orchestral conducting as a related field.
In 2017, Xiachu was selected from a pool of over a thousand applicants to join the inaugural NYO-China. Under the baton of Ludovic Morlot, Music Director of the Seattle Symphony, and sharing the stage with pianists Yuja Wang and Olga Kern, the orchestra performed at Carnegie Hall to critical acclaim. *The New York Times* praised the performance, stating, “If [the Carnegie Hall performance] was a test run for this new venture, these Chinese musicians scored big.”
As an active performer, Xiachu Song frequently participates with renowned orchestras such as the Plano Symphony Orchestra, Richardson Symphony Orchestra, Abilene Philharmonic, and Las Colinas Symphony Orchestra. She has also served as the concertmaster of the University of North Texas Symphony Orchestra and the UNT Lab Orchestra. In addition, she has successfully held multiple solo recitals, with performances at prestigious venues, including Kulas Hall at Oberlin Conservatory, Recital Hall at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music, Voertman Hall at the University of North Texas, and Dallas College.
Xiachu has been actively involved in numerous esteemed music festivals, including the ENCORE Chamber Music Institute, Festival del Lago, Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival, and Texas Chamber Music Festival. In the summer of 2021, she was invited to perform Mendelssohn String Octet in E-flat Major alongside distinguished faculty members Luke Fleming and Noémie Raymond-Friset.
In the summer of 2025, Xiachu was selected to attend the Round Top Music Festival, where she served as concertmaster and principal second violin. During the festival, she collaborated with prominent conductors including Michelle Merrill, JoAnn Falletta, Robert Spano, and Carl St. Clair. She was also invited to perform alongside faculty artists such as Susan Dubois (University of North Texas), Tomás Cotik (Portland State University), Emilio Colón (Indiana University), and Christiano Rodrigues (Washington State University).
In addition to her orchestral work, Xiachu is a professional and dedicated teacher. She was honored to serve as a violin judge for the NSSOTA Solo Festival and as a coach for the high school orchestra. Her students consistently achieve remarkable success in competitions, receiving top awards in events such as the Texas State Solo-Ensemble contests, PMTA Sonatina Festival, and PMTA American Festival.
